Abstract
This study is to analyze images of alchemy appeared commonly in three kinds of popular arts with having alchemy as their themes, and to link such images with the public images of science. The images of alchemy appeared in the popular art are different from actual images considered in terms of the history of science. Even though alchemy has two contexts of chemical technology and mysticism, only mysticism is emphasized in such public images. It is because expertise of science is hard to be accepted all together when science is infused into art which is heterogeneous culture. Images of modern science represent similar aspects with the case of alchemy. Unlike the actual science, diverse expertise is omitted and images are standardized when it comes to images remembered by the public. When science is learnt not as major subjects but as liberal arts especially, schematized images could distort true images of science.
Key Words: Images of Science, Alchemy, Mysticism, Chemical Technology, Popular art, Science and art
