Exploring the Nature of science for Fundamental Liberal Education Through Convergence and Integration - Based on Comprehension of Kuhn s Philosophy of Science

Abstract
The concepts of Integration and convergence are spreading in the society at large as well as in university recently. But while the epistemological ground of convergence of knowledge appears through Unity of knowledge , the ontological ground of it appears through selection of nature. For this purpose, in this research, we introduced a STS constructivism procedure model for the liberal education titled of “philosophical comprehension of science and technology” which was opened as the STS subject. This procedure model of convergence and Integration was applied to the students of Chungbuk National University and Korea University of Technology and Education as well as the students of arts & social science and science & engineering who are taking the subject of philosophical comprehension of science and technology in Hanyang University. With the chapter of the comprehension of Kuhn s philosophy of science which is necessary to be equipped for core scientific literacy, the recognition of the students in order to find out the possibility of the effects of this model was investigated. As the results, the students were responding positively to the liberal education using the procedure model which this research developed, and especially the students of science & engineering compared to one of arts & social science was more proactive in learning about the learning method through STS constructivist flow map. To attract active participation from the students of arts & social science, the flow map which we suggested and emphasized only cognitive parts and STS constructivism needs to be improved. In conclusion, STS constructivist procedure model which this research developed needs to be pushfully introduced into liberal education of Integration and convergence through more improvement.
