Abstract |
While digital media are convenient, many people worry that they have many side effects as well. But no one can deny the fact that digital media are also important tools for communicating with each other. This study aims to seek the potentialities of them through an interesting approach of digital performance.
Originally, the concept of performance came from theatre studies. Performance studies has stressed an interaction between the stage and the audience. It has also featured activities such as a participation, public ownership, cooperation etc. Recently, Performance study is expended to digital media, because they have the strong points of an interactive communication. Thus, one can use this media for liberal arts education. A general education needs to have plenty of opportunities to communicate and discuss between the participants. But we are running out of the time. Digital performance would help go into a free group discussion by relieving lack of time.
Lastly, this paper introduces a rudimentary example that used professor’ blog in order to share main subjects in the humanities with the students. Consequently, it helped solve some problems of classroom lessons such as a lack of time and mutual discussion etc. But sadly, it had different limitations because all students were not actively joining in performance. After all, we have to do these limitations. A educational practice use of digital media is still in its beginning stages. The various efforts to overcome these problems may contribute to broaden horizons of liberal arts education. |
