Abstract
Considering that the general education establishes the basics of human beings, the leadership development course that helps students to reflect on their identity and develop self-directedness could be one type of general education. The purpose of this study is to review the meaning of leadership development course for university students and to check possibility of it to be a general education. The case of A university was analysed and evaluated and the findings were as follows. The leadership development course has been designed as self-leadership course based on the university’s unique educational philosophy and helped students to return their attention toward a deep introspection to recover self-esteem and confidence essentially. The class has been operated student-directed way and instructors facilitated students’ participation and supported them. Program evaluation results verified the level of leadership competencies were significantly improved, especially the ‘having a firm values’, ‘action plan to achieve a goal ’ and ‘doing my best everyday ’ were greatly improved. In this study, the possibility of leadership development course as general education was verified.
