The Study on Implicational Relationship among Sub-characteristics of Vocabulary Knowledge

Abstract
This study examined the kinds of sub-characteristics of vocabulary knowledge and the relationship among those properties. Vocabulary, one of the key factors for mastering language learning, includes many dimensions, from acknowledging meaning and spelling, to grammatical functions and use. There are some aspects of a language that are obtained easily while others are relatively acquired at a slower pace. The present study, therefore, aims to figure out both the point and the relation among those factors. Participants consisted of fifty three students who took an English class as part of their general education, and who were spread across many different academic fields. These students were asked to fill in the blanks with word parts (speech of words), meaning, associated words, antonyms or synonyms, and the sentence structure of the given words. Those five items are designed for identifying the form of vocabulary, the meaning of vocabulary, and the use of vocabulary. To investigate the implicational relationship among sub-characteristics of vocabulary knowledge, an analysis of correlation and ANOVA were conducted using SPSS 21 version and further discussion was introduced.
