Based on the author’s teaching experiences at Harvard and Carleton colleges, this paper seeks a meaningful dialogue with the colleagues who are devoted to the liberal arts education in Korea. The report delineates the meanings and purposes of liberal arts education in the United States of America; introduces liberal arts colleges’ overall curricular goals and specific pedagogic skills; and examines recent challenges from various corners to the liberal arts’ ideals.
