Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the current conditions of leadership education programs for undergraduate students at selected colleges and universities in the United-States. The websites of each institution were the primary sources of the dta for this study. In addition, the National Clearing house for Leadership Programs at University of Maryland provided the information about undergraduate leadership courses that were offered at the various colleges and universities. One of the areas that many programs emphasize in the leadership education was the theoretical aspects of leadership. The social change model was one of the most widely adopted theoretical framework in the leadership education. The social change theory is based on the seven core values, so-called “seven Cs” : consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, common purpose, collaboration, controversy with civility, and citizenship. Many institutions emphasized the experiential aspects and offered the opportunities for internships at federal, state, and local community organization. The community service learning was an important part of the leadership in practice. Another important component of the undergraduate leadership education was the reflections on the leadership responsibility, ethics, and spirituality.
